Watersports

Dolphin View Cottage in Ardersier makes the perfect base for watersports enthusiasts.

Although the Moray Firth has a deep water channel between Chanonry Point and Fort George which is used by shipping heading towards Inverness Harbour and the Caledonian Canal, the bay between Ardersier and Fort George is a gently shelving shallow bay which is ideal for watersports.

On windy days it is perfect for windsurfers and kitesurfers who you will often see at the Fort George end of the bay doing some spectacular jumps and getting quite a lot of air between their boards and the sea.

Calmer days are more suited to canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards.

Directly opposite the cottage, you will find stone steps that give direct access to the Moray Firth - however being tidal, when the tide is out, it's a long walk to the water.

Ardersier also has a slipway and car park that's useful for launching larger craft.

The gently shelving bay is also popular with wild swimmers.

Dolphin View Cottage has a lockable shed which is ideal for storing sports equipment when not on the water and for afterwards, the cottage has a lovely bath to relax in after a day on the water (there is a shower over the bath) but sometimes only a bath will do!

All this plus the dolphins, seals, birdlife, and lots of picnic benches and seats to just sit and relax watching the tide.
